When you’re designing a website, the user experience should always be your priority. Simplify The Layout
An overcomplicated layout really ruins the user experience because people cannot immediately see what they’re looking for and they have to spend a lot of time searching around. People often make the mistake of trying to pack too much into one page and it becomes overcrowded and difficult to read. The best way to work out if your layout is good or not is to conduct first click tests on all of the pages. It’s a simple test where people are given a screenshot of the page and asked where they would click to find certain pieces of information or pages. By measuring clicks, you can see whether it is obvious for users where they should click or whether the layout is confusing. If you do find that people struggle with the layout, you need to strip it back and make it more streamlined.
Speed Things Up
A slow website is one of the worst things that you can make because people are very patient online. Ideally, users shouldn’t have to wait for more than a second or two for a page to load. Any longer than that and they’re likely to leave the site. This often becomes a problem when businesses grow because they get more visitors and the site isn’t equipped to deal with that level of traffic. It’s important that you check the speed of the site on a regular basis and take steps to speed it up if things are running slowly.
