One of the last books I read closing out 2019 was Building a StoryBrand by Donald Miller. This book teaches you the seven universal elements of compelling stories so you can dramatically improve how you connect with customers when writing the copy for your website, marketing materials, and your overall brand messaging.
One of the hardest questions to answer is when someone asks you what you do. This book taught me how to create a one-liner about my business that explains in the simplest way possible what I do and intrigues the other person enough to want to know more.
In the first few pages of the book, the author talks about having a workshop where they help CEOs implement the StoryBrand framework in their businesses.
One of the CEOs said that he owned an industrial painting company and that this simple approach could never work for them because their business was too complicated in all the different paint solutions they offered to a variety of industries.
The author told the CEO that they could say on their website, “We paint all kinds of SH#T” with a button that said, “Get a Quote.”
