It doesn’t matter if you already call yourself a marketer, or you already know a thing or two about marketing. There are always going to be ways that you can get better and improve, especially since the market is always changing and evolving. If everything is continuously evolving, then you should too! In this post, we’re going to talk about becoming a better marketer in the shortest amount of time. Read on if this sounds like something you want to do:
Focus On Creating And Maintaining Strong Relationships
The technical part of marketing is important, sure, but creating and maintaining strong relationships is just as important. If you’re not a ‘people person’ you need to train yourself to be one. It isn’t enough to create relationships. Maintaining them to keep them fresh and strong is a must, too.
Do Your Research On Other Great Marketers
Take a look at other great marketers and learn from them. Read blog posts and books. Study them so you can become more like them over your marketing career.
Keep Your Skills and Knowledge Fresh And Updated
Don’t be afraid to look at training to keep your skills and knowledge fresh and updated. You don’t need to set out to get a degree; any course or workshop could be beneficial.
Have a Dedicated Space To Teach Yourself And Practice
If you’ve been marketing in your bedroom, you may have made progress, but it’ll likely stall. A bedroom doesn’t make for the most inspiring office. Have a dedicated space to teach yourself and practice marketing, such as a quiet spot in your local area, or even a makeshift office that you’ve put together yourself. A garden shed or garage could make a great office, but there are steel construction services that could be suited to you if you’re serious about your marketing venture. Consider what is likely to motivate you most. Having a commercial space also gives you the space to start a business if that’s where you’re heading.
Understand And Use The Data
Data is basically your customer laid out in front of you. By not only understanding, but using the data, you can make better decisions as a marketer and get better results. A recent study from the CMO council and IBM showed that 27% of marketers don’t do anything with the data even though they collect it, and 14% did the same thing over and over again with no progression. These stats are unsettling. Don’t be one of the marketers that has no idea what to do with the data! Understanding it is the first step, and knowing what to do with it is the next. Make sure you’re doing these things.
Patience is key when you want to get better marketing results. The truth is, you can become a better marketer quickly, but results will still take some time. Be in it for the long haul and consistently work towards getting better. You’ll end up where you need to be.
Use Productivity Hacks
Part of becoming a better marketer is being productive enough to get everything done that you need to get done without becoming overwhelmed. There are lots of productivity hacks out there that you can use. One of the biggest hacks being staying away from social media and emails, as they simply clog up your brain and stop you from getting the most out of your day. It could also be a good idea to get up super early. Some of the most successful people out there get up between 4.30 and 5.30 am. That might sound crazy to you, but the world is quiet and you can get some of your best work done at this time. Maybe aim for twice a week at first and see how much more you can get done!
