One of the best ways to get ahead in the world of business is to be a brilliant networker. After all, the more people know the more help, support, and ultimately business you will get, not to mention the fact that you’ll have so much more fun on your journey as a creative boss lady. So, it makes sense that you should at least try your hand at setting up your own networking event at least once.
By running your own networking event, you’ll show other people in your niche, and any potential clients, that you mean business, you know what you’re doing, and you’re really awesome when it comes to having a good time – what’s not to love?
Sound good but you don’t know where to start? Check out these quick tips for planning an awesome networking event:
Make it as Simple as Possible
The more difficult you make it, the more work you’ll have to do and the more likely it is that something will go horribly wrong, so keep it simple by using the Eventbrite for pre-registration, so that you know how many people are coming, by having caterers deal with the food and by not trying to do too much the first time you try it. Events can be amazing without lots of unnecessary whistles if you invite the right people and create a fun and interesting atmosphere.
Think Carefully About Your Choice of Venue
Lots of high-end venues will let your hold networking events in their conference rooms, lobbies or patio areas if they think that the bar will get a lot of use, and this can be a good choice if you’re looking to woo big important business people who expect something more upscale. However, if you’re looking for a something a little smaller in scale. You want to be able to get to know everyone who attends personally and you want things to be more informal, using a marquee or tent structure in your office garden or somewhere similar can be a good alternative. It’s all about matching the venue to the attendees, theme and feel of the event.
Ensure Speakers are Interesting
There’s nothing worse than attending an event only to find the majority of the speakers are dry, dull and the same speakers that you see at pretty much every event in your niche. So, as the creative boss lady you are, scour the speaking world for fresh faces, new approaches and charismatic personalities. Don’t be afraid to shake things up with non-traditional views and ideas and you can bet that your event will be remembered far more fondly than most.
Meet and Greet Everyone
As the host, and someone who is hoping to publicize your business at the event, it is important that you’re there to meet and greet as many people as possible. Shake hands, say hello, tell them how glad you are they came and try to be as authentic as you can.
Get People Talking
You should also do your best to introduce attendees to each other. By doing this, you’ll spend more time getting to know people, project a friendly image and potentially help others to make important busienss connections, which they will be extremely grateful to you for. Don’t make it all about you and you will win more than if you hog the limelight.
