One of the top questions I get is how to rank higher on Google. The simple truth is that there’s no specific way to rank higher in Google search results. Instead, it’s a continuous process of website optimization that will help you achieve a top spot in search engine result pages (SERP).
The reason why you should want to rank higher organically in search results because it sends FREE traffic to your website. The downside is that you have to jump through a few hoops to get Google to notice your site. Today I’m sharing five tips to step up your SEO game so you can start receiving free search engine traffic.
1. Use Alt Tags & Titles
Search engines can’t read images, but you can specify the image description using the alt tags and titles. If you’re using a WordPress theme like Divi, then you can easily add alt tags and titles to your images. Alt tags allow search engines like Google to read images and list them in Google image search results. You can also specify alt tags and titles in the Media section of your WordPress website.
2. Optimize Your Website Images
Large image files make your website slow. Website speed is a key ranking factor for Google. You can use a WordPress plugin like Imagify to optimize your images.
3. Use SSL Encryption
If you have an online shop or are collecting any user data such as contact forms, then you need an SSL cert. Most hosts like SiteGround provide SSL certs for free via Let’s Encrypt.
4. Use an SEO Plugin
One of my favorite SEO plugins is Yoast SEO. It allows you to set the page title and meta description for your pages which shows up in search engine results. You can also set a keyword for the page, and Yoast will provide recommendations on how to optimize the keyword throughout the page.
5. Use Landing Pages
Instead of directing users to your home page, create landing pages for your offerings so that users can find the information they need right away. This practice lowers your bounce rate, which is the rate of people who only visit one page of your site and bounce away.
