When it comes to growing your freelance business, having a solid platform to implement your email marketing strategy is crucial. Recently, I decided to make the switch from ConvertKit to Active Campaign. When I made the switch, a lot of you all asked why which prompted me to write this post and help you decide which of these email marketing service providers is right for you.

ConvertKit and ActiveCampaign are powerful email marketing tools, but they’re targeted at entirely different audiences. Here are my reasons why I made the switch from ConvertKit to ActiveCampaign.

I got started with ConvertKit in 2018, after leaving MailChimp. At the time, ConvertKit was easier to use and was intended to be used by solopreneurs, content creators, and freelancers.

I loved the idea of not having to build the perfect layout, and instead writing in plain text, as if I was writing to a friend and not trying to sell something.

Shiny object syndrome, maybe?

Up until now, I was pretty happy with ConvertKit. And don’t get me wrong, I think they’re amazing but after using Active Campaign in my full-time work at LearnDash, I found that I enjoyed using Active Campaign more.

So what made me pull the trigger and switch? While I agree that minimal design is still best, I also found ConvertKit to be limiting unless you wanted to use their templates or mess around with HTML to build your own.

The design freedom, powerful automations, and built-in integrations are some of what helped me make the decision to go with Active Campaign.

Should you switch from ConvertKit to Active Campaign?

Without going over the top in deep comparison, I think ConvertKit is great for people who want the flexibility of starting small and growing big using the tools built into the platform.

However, if you’re a seasoned marketer with a suite of your own preferred tools that can integrate with your email marketing service, then Active Campaign is the way to go. It scales with ease for service-based and eCommerce brands alike.

More reasons why I made the switch.

The decision to switch from ConvertKit to Active Campaign will depend on your individual needs and preferences. Here are some of the reasons why I made the switch:

  • Active Campaign offers more advanced email marketing features, such as automated sales funnels and customer segmentation.
  • Active Campaign has a more user-friendly interface, making it easier to create and manage email campaigns.
  • Active Campaign offers better integrations with other tools and services, allowing you to easily connect your email marketing efforts with your other business operations.
  • Active Campaign has a more generous pricing structure, offering more features and higher email sending limits for a lower price.

Ultimately, the decision to switch from ConvertKit to Active Campaign (or any other email marketing service) should be based on your specific business needs and goals. It’s always a good idea to do your own research and compare different email marketing services before making a decision.

Here’s what to consider when choosing an email service provider.

When choosing an email service provider, there are several factors you should consider. Some of the most important factors include:

Cost: Determine how much you are willing to spend on an email service provider and compare the pricing plans of different providers to find the best value for your money.

Features: Consider the specific features you need, such as automation, segmentation, or integrations with other tools, and choose a provider that offers the features you need.

Deliverability: Choose a provider with a good reputation for deliverability and a proven track record of getting emails delivered to the inbox.

Customer service: Consider the level of customer support offered by the provider and choose one that is responsive and helpful in case you need assistance with your account or campaigns.

User-friendliness: Consider the user-friendliness of the provider’s interface and choose one that is easy to use and navigate.

Considering these factors, you can find an email service provider that meets your needs and helps you achieve your business goals.

Still not sure which one to choose? Here’s the cheat code.

Choose ConvertKit if you’re a blogger or have very basic email marketing needs, ConverKit is the email marketing service you’re looking for. You want to be efficient and create smart autoresponders but not spend a lifetime setting up an overly complicated sales funnel. Pricing starts at $29/mo which makes it affordable, plus anyone can build email sequences without being a marketing vet.

Choose Active Campaign if you’re an agency, online marketer, or large business or if you have a high-touch sales process and require flexibility. Pricing starts at $39 per month for the lowest plan, it’s also more complex but they have a helpful onboarding team and content to help you through the process.
